A FEW WORDS ABOUT...ME
![]()
I'm glad you are here and let me introduce myself. I'm Marcello Scata', I'm 38 years old and only child. I was born in Pordenone in September 11th 1970. I have graduated in Computer Science Engineering at the Padua University.
I grew up in Mestre, a small town close to Venice, then I lived in Verona (Romeo&Giuliet's town) for 5 years. Since the beginning of 2003 I've been living in Bologna where I'm employed at the R&D division of multinational Company leader in energy and transport infrastructure.
MY "PROFESSIONAL CARRIER"
![]()
I've been interested in Computer Science since 1993, when my parents gave me my first PC: the mythical Commodore64. I like programming. I started developing application software when I was at the high school using "instruments and programming languages of that time".
In 1987 I developed my first software program for a fitness facility. It was developed in Basic under MS-DOS and run on Olivetti M24, excellent PC at that time, but it still can be found on some office desks today!
Since then I've been studying and practising many programming languages (Basic, Cobol, Pascal, C, C++, VisualBasic and Java) as well as operating systems and networks architectures.I continued developing software programs during my university education as well:
I teached Office Automation in some courses funded by the EC (1996).
The FINN Power Italia, a Company leader in sheet metal working machines and manufacturing systems, asked me to develop a software package for the technical service team. It was developed in Visual Basic using Access and SQL under Windows (1996).
I worked a four months contract on behalf of Sistema Ufficio S.p.A., a software house leader in office automation dedicated for notaries. I was responsible for the development of the intranet software using SQL, Access, Outlook, VisualBasic, ActiveX, HTML and ASP (1997).
I'm concerned in telecommunication systems, networking and Internet. I bought my first GSM phone in August 1996 (Motorola 8400), from that moment I've been improving my knowledge in mobile telecommunication and GSM technology.
In March 1997 I published my first Internet site, MASCWorld online, focused on the GSM technology. Geocities, one of the first Internet free-homepages community, hosted it.
In 1989 I graduated in Computer Science Engineering at the Padua University. My final thesis concerned the development of GSM systems for Railway requirements: "Sistemi GSM in ambito ferroviario secondo il progetto europeo ERTMS/EURORADIO" (Supervisor: Prof. Gianfranco Cariolaro), carried out in cooperation with the same Company at which I'm employed today.
CURRENT EMPLOYMENT

I'm working as System integration and testing manager at the trainborne signaling R&D departement of an multinational company leader in energy and transport infratructure. I was also involved in the deployment of the ERTMS system, the European Rail Traffic Management System project to create unique signaling standards throughout Europe and based on the GSM technology. For more information on this last project, have a look at the following Internet resouces:
CONTRIBUTIONS/COLLABORATIONS

Since 1997 to 2003, I was the creator and webmaster of "GSMWORLD (...viaggio nel mondo del GSM)", an Internet site dedicated to everything concerning GSM.
Since 2000 to 2001 I was co-operating with Eurocom S.r.l., as teacher of GSM architecture and technique.
In the past I wrote technical articles regarding mobile telephony and telecommunications, published on "Telefoni Cellulari Magazine" and "Wireless" magazines.
